Foam Rolling Is Sexy

What’s up bro.. bought a foam roller the other day and am having it shipped. If you get a chance or have any instructional video on how to exactly use it, that will be helpful. I found a few things on the internet but mostly geared to pilates type work. Anyways, thanks for the workout tips you sent me last week. I’ve been training at the gym here in Kuwait and things have been going well. Haven’t lost any weight as of yet, but have made improvements with my strength. Talk soon.
This was an e-mail I received the other day from my buddy who’s stationed in Kuwait for the next year. All I have to say is that he has balls of steel for doing what he’s doing, and is the epitome of bad-ass. I mean, granted, my “badassness” is unprecedented given the fact that I’m posting a video of what can only be described as me impregnating a foam roller. Watch and learn, fellas.
EDIT: on a serious note, this video was taken last summer and shows you what our general foam rolling series looks like at CP. Typically you will want to spend roughly 20-30 seconds on each “area,” and obviously do both sides.

It’s actually a batting cage ball that we snaked from our old facility when we shared space with an indoor baseball academy. We also like to use lacrosse balls.

Quick question - are Cherrios really that bad?
Thanks,
Alison

Cherrios are awesome diet food! They said so on The Biggest Loser last night. Don’t pretend like you didn’t see it.
JMJ added these pithy words on Feb 4th, 2009 at 2:11 pm |Thanks for the quick answer Tony.
Full disclosure: My wife ate a bowl of cherrios this morning b/c she said she watched the Biggest Loser last night and Jillian said they are only 100 calories and made of whole grain. Marketing 101.

I have been hearing about this a lot lately (fitcast, etc…). Can you give me the 2 sentence version of ‘why’ I should be doing this?
Thanks!
Deb added these pithy words on Feb 4th, 2009 at 2:45 pm |Cherrios are bad, but CHEERIOS are awesome!!! You know, Cheer with an oh!
Sheesh.
Tony Gentilcore added these pithy words on Feb 4th, 2009 at 2:52 pm |Cheerios aren’t bad people. I was just being an asshat. That being said, at the end of the day is comes down to TOTAL calories. Cheerios could certainly be part of a “diet,” so long as total calories are in check. However, I hate those 100 calorie snack packs. It’s just a way for people to rationalize eating like shit. Jen actually put Cheerios in my diet plan on certain days (training days). I just broke the rules a teeny, tiny bit today. Shhhhhh, don’t tell.

In short: people need to be more cognizant of tissue QUALITY. Foam rolling helps to do this by helping to get rid of trigger points, knots, scar tissue, etc that tend to accumulate in muscle.

Isn’t it sad that when you take all the sugar out of your diet cheerios are like crack? I had a shredded wheat incident the other day …
P. J. Striet added these pithy words on Feb 5th, 2009 at 12:09 pm |I had frosted mini-wheats this morning (hey, I added 4 oz of berries). God I love cereal. After that 28 day diet I just got off of, it tasted like heaven. Luckily, I just got my battling ropes and burned up a bunch of energy dicking around with them so “no harm no foul”.

Hi, my name is Jen Heath, and I read your blog…;0)
Cheerios are divine. Like the TWO bowls of them that I ate after my photoshoot yesterday, which was after 6 HUGE fajitas (uhm…NOT low carb wraps) laden with guacamole. Me eating all that food was hot…errr, I mean it heated ny body up. Yeah, that’s what I meant. Well, it did! Just sayin. I totally deserved it though.
In all seriousness, carbs have their place. Right smack dab in the middle of my heart.

Thanks for the video though. My wife and I are thinking of getting one and weren’t sure how to correctly use it.

I am doing this school project on your blog. (journalism class) It would really mean a lot to me if by Wednesday night you added in five more blog entries. I don’t want to fail. They do not have to be long. Please.
